Fura’s Colombian Emerald Mine

In October 2018, I travelled to Colombia to lecture at the World Emerald Symposium and to visit Fura’s emerald mine in the heart of the legendary Muzo region, an area celebrated for producing some of the most prized emeralds in the world, with a history dating back centuries. Exploring the mine offered a fascinating look at modern mining techniques set against a backdrop of lush, mountainous landscapes. Meeting the dedicated team behind the operation brought the story of these gems to life. The experience was both unforgettable and profoundly enriching, offering a direct connection to a timeless legacy of beauty and tradition.
