Ruby and Sapphire Mine in Mogok, Myanmar (Burma)

In March 2016, I travelled to Mogok in Myanmar (Burma), a region legendary for its rubies and sapphires. Known as the “Valley of Rubies,” Mogok has been celebrated for centuries for producing some of the finest rubies in the world, with a history steeped in royal treasures and global trade. Walking through the mines and meeting local miners offered a rare insight into this remote and beautiful part of the country. The vivid colours of the stones, set against the lush mountain landscape, were breathtaking. Experiencing Mogok’s gem markets and rich cultural heritage made the journey both remarkable and deeply inspiring.
